MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – Floods and landslides hit East Flores, East Nusa Tenggara on Sunday (4/4) at 2 a.m. local time. They swept three districts, namely Ile Boleng, East Adonara, and Wotan Ulumado. It’s reported 64 dead that most of them were from Ile Boleng.
Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center (MDMC) fast responded to the emergency by having coordination with Muhammadiyah elements in East Flores and Sikka Regency, the nearest area from the local MDMC.
Chair of MDMC Budi Setiawan offered condolences to the disaster victims. “We have already requested Coordinator of Disaster Response, Rehabilitation, and Reconstruction Division to respond to the disasters,” stated Budi.
Budi added that his parties have got information about the condition there. “This afternoon we have talked to Chair of MDMC of Sikka and Chairman of Muhammadiyah Youth Association of East Adonara, East Flores this afternoon,” he informed.
Meanwhile, Coordinator of Disaster Response, Rehabilitation, and Reconstruction Division Indrayanto would follow up initial information soon. “This afternoon we immediately command a member of an assistance team, Charil Anam, to depart to East Nusa Tenggara to coordinate and help local Muhammadiyah parties to perform the emergency response,” he said.
The action is a part of emergency response preparedness of the MDMC. “Our first emergency response is sending an assistance team. Afterwards, the follow-up actions will be undertaken after gaining reports form the team, whether the disasters require Muhammadiyah local supports or greater ones,” explained Indrayanto.
Besides, based on the initial information, Muhamamdiyah volunteers from Muhammadiyah Youth Association of East Flores and East Adonara will establish a disaster shelter in SMA Muhammadiyah Lamahala, Lahamala Jaya, East Adonara District to assist affected-disaster people.
