MUHAMMADIYAH.ID, YOGYAKARTA – President of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir stated the Palestinian issue is a global humanitarian issue.
Before the British Empire and the Americans came and the Arab countries became the center of global conflicts, the Middle East only confronted regional conflicted.
“After World War I and World War II that the United Kingdom (UK) and the United States (US) were allies, a new issue emerged, namely the establishment of Israel. Since then, the Middle East conflicts have occurred in not only Palestine but also the Arabian Peninsula,” explained Haedar, who is Professor of Sociology, in the monthly preaching of Muhammadiyah on Friday (11/6).
Israel’s annexation and apartheid politics are the core of the global humanitarian conflict which the UK and the US prolong in purpose. Ironically, both states are pioneers of human rights.
“Why do the UK and the US last? Why don’t they learn that colonialism is humiliating and takes everything away? What will happen? Indeed, the US knew how the UK was,” he asked rhetorically.
“Then, why don’t we stop the conflict? 1947 and 1948 are more enough to take trouble actions. We should no longer make trouble and prolong conflicts in the Middle East,” he stated.
“I just speak up that the conflict is the global humanitarian issue besides the political issue. Thus, Indonesian people may not be divided because of the Palestinian issue as some people, including elites, overlooked history and began having sympathy for Israel,” asserted Haedar.
“Reread history and understand spirit of founding fathers of this nation. It’s fine to follow primordial politics, but it may not lead us to become pro-Israel and anti-Palestine because our nation suffered from colonialism as Palestine,” he said.
