MUHAMMADIYAH.ID, PALANGKA RAYA – President of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir emphasized that Indonesia is a state of Pancasila, not a religious or secular state.
Therefore, extreme behaviors supporting religious articles applied in all life aspects are similar to extreme secular behaviors to eliminate religious values in several national life aspects.
“Indonesia adheres to moderate teachings that the state principles should be in line with religions. Many religious values, but not all, are included in state policies,” conveyed Haedar in an inauguration of Masjid Al-Ukhuwah Katingan Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan on Saturday (6/3).
According to Haedar, the religious moderation should always be promoted since phenomena of Islamophobia are increasing as a result of people who cannot perform good attitudes and become a role model.
“Besides, public may not be averse to other religions and their believers because some believers don’t behave well, but other people generalize it,” he revealed.
Haedar asserted that state officials should be highly aware of the Pancasila state so that they don’t pervert their position for making public policy.
“When religious figures and public figures have a position in the government, they have to be fair and sincere. They may not represent their groups or insist their mazhab to be included the state decision. A state may not have certain mazhab,” asserted Haedar.
“The awareness should be raised. Living in this nation should prioritize brotherhood. Don’t exaggerate a small problem. We need to find its solution. If it can’t be resolved, each individual should be heartened to figure it out as sometimes we can’t entirely cope with a problem,” he expressed.
