MUHAMMADIYAH.ID, JAKARTA – Together with University of Gadjah Mada, Professor of Anthropology as well as an Islamic observer of Boston University Robert Hefner proposed Muhammadiyah and Nahdlatul Ulama to achieve the Nobel Peace Prize in 2019.
Despite failed, Robert Hefner told he never regretted it. He contended that introducing the two organizations to the world may not stop.
“For me, Muahamamdiyah is an answer since Indonesia becomes the only state performing social and religious charities which we can observe as a model for not only other Islamic organizations but also the world,” declared Hefner at the Ramadan Preaching 1442 AH on Friday (16/4).
Participating in many international forums and meeting educational practitioners in the Islamic world, Hefner drew a conclusion that Muhammadiyah is a pioneer in education and has more potential to be a ideal education prototype for Islamic states than other higher education institutions in the Islamic world.
For instance, in a forum in Turkey, Herfner met historians and professors who wondered why Indonesia can play more significant roles in education than other Islamic countries even though the state doesn’t have any remarkable history of tertiary institutions.
“I emphasize that Indonesia is a country which successfully develops the most effective modern Islamic education. Indeed, Muhammadiyah contributes to the most success,” he asserted.
