MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA— A member of the Muhammadiyah Council for Tarjih and Tajdid Susiknan Azhar broke the Indonesian Museum of Records (MURI) for successfully gathering schedules of imsak timings of Ramadan from 41 countries.
They’re Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Sudan, Tunisia, Lebanon, Palestine, Morocco, Al-Jazair. , Libya, South Africa, Pakistan, India, Taipei, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Turkey, America, United Kingdom, Austria, France, Germany, Swed en, Denmark, Ireland, Netherlands, Poland, Italy, Bosnia, and the Philippines.
“Alhamdulillah wa Syukurillah wala haula wala quwwata illa billah. I’ve collected the imsak timing lists for years. I faced many challenges, but I learned a lot,” he expressed on Monday (30/5).
This pandemic gave him an opportunity to arrange the imsak timing lists so that they could easily be noticed. His long journey’s finally paid. The MURI rewarded him as the Collector of Lists of Imsak Timing of Ramadan from the Most Countries.
“One of the imsak timings was 85 years old based on the Islamic calendar or 83 years old based the Georgian calendar. The imsak timing was published in 1375 AH/1938 CE,” he told.
Susikan, who’s a professor of UIN Sunan Kalijaga, hoped that what he did could inspire others and be valuable for Islamic astronomy.
