MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA— Universiti Muhammadiyah Malaysia (UMAM) is different from other universities because the university offers postgraduate programs in the first three years and undergraduate programs in the third year.
Chairman of Board of Governors (BoG) Prof. Bambang Setiaji mentioned the university will offer undergraduate programs after the third year.
“We consider available resources. The graduate programs are supported by 16 to 17 retired Malaysian professors led by Prof. Datuk Mohd Noh Dalimin,” Prof. Bambang Setiaji said in the virtual press conference of the UMAM establishment on Thursday (12/8).
Chief of Executive of the UMAM Waluyo Adi Siswanto mentioned the university offers 15 programs. 5 of them are doctoral programs, namely Education, Business and Management, Social Studies, and Information Technology.
“The master’s degree programs also consist of the five fields,” Waluyo said.
The graduate programs are by research so that students focus on research since the first year of their study.
Students are expected to conduct international joint research between Indonesian students and Malaysian students or other international students. Besides, the undergraduate programs focus on English Language Education, Management and Business, E-Business, Information Technology, and Psychology.
The university also provides scholarships prioritized for Muhammadiyah and ‘Aisyiyah higher education teachers and Muhammadiyah cadres. Later, the scholarships will be offered to the public.
The scholarships are one of the Muhammadiyah efforts to help students who have strong determination to study but don’t have sufficient financial support.
Muhammadiyah, through the UMAM establishment, aspires to share positive energy with all people and to convince them that they have to stay optimistic and may not stop working hard no matter how their condition is. Muhammadiyah together with the Indonesian people will always endeavor to develop this nation and universal humanity and to educate them.
