MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA— Permit issuance of Universiti Muhammadiyah Malaysia (UMAM) is officially granted. President of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir said the UMAM is a milestone of the first Indonesian university establishment overseas.
The Malaysian government through the Ministry of Higher Education of Malaysia issued a permit for the UMAM establishment. It’s an expansion to educate nations.
The UMAM establishment shows Muhammadiyah’s active role in global education starting from ASEAN regions. The UMAM is expected to take strategic roles in achieving development and unity and creating an enlightening civilization under the ideology of Islam Berkemajuan (Progressive Islam).

Getting the permit issuance wasn’t easy, and it took more than three years. Muhammadiyah had to go through stages and procedures applied in both Malaysia and Indonesia.
“The permit is officially granted because Muhammadiyah can work with objective systems highly upholding laws, and doesn’t get used to taking a shortcut,” Haedar said.
