MUHAMMADIYAH.ID, JAKARTA – General Secretary of Muhammadiyah Abdul Mu’ti said a blessing in disguise during this pandemic. Many inventions and health service technologies are created.
“Research has also brought new perspectives. The positive and constructive views lead to how Muhammadiyah sees the outbreak,” Mu’ti said in the forum conducted by Universitas Muhammadiyah Gresik on Monday (2/8).
Muhammadiyah’s harmonious way of thinking represents an ideal identity of Islam which doesn’t dichotomize the position between religion and science.
“Religion and science go hand in hand. Religion gives us revelation guidance while science provides us research-based guidance so that we always keep improving ourselves and give services to communities,” Mu’ti said.
“Religion gives us a transcendental spirit that everything we do will be worth worship if we intend it for Allah, and helping people is part of the worship,” he said.
The harmonious view between science and religion is important because it will also determine how to solve problems. Moreover, apart from Muslims, almost all religions in the world have a stutter in positioning science and revelation.
“Fatalistic views happen to not only Muslims but also believers of other religions. Many of them, other than Muslims, don’t believe in COVID-19 either. They refuse to follow self-protection guidance from the government and scientists such wearing masks, keeping distance, avoiding contact, and other efforts to prevent us from the COVID-19 transmission,” Mu’ti mentioned.
“Many world citizens appreciate Indonesian Muslims and Muhammadiyah because showing the fact that religion and religious organizations have played roles in not only performing spiritual efforts but also doing scientific efforts,” Mu’ti said.
