MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, SLEMAN – Mt. Merapi spew hot clouds on Wednesday (27/1) at 1.45 p.m. local time. The volcanic ash blanketed several areas such as Cangkringan and Kaliurang street.
Avalanches of hot clouds occurred 21 times since 6 a.m. A member of Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center (MDMC) Umam informed that the avalanches slid to the south and southwest direction.
“The wind was directed to the northwest so that there was thin ash,” he stated in an interview on Wednesday (27/1).
It was reported that areas of Boyolali and Magelang was safe, and people were not evacuated yet.
Most of evacuees were a vulnerable group from Disaster-Prone Area (KRB) III. “The evacuation happens in Klaten, exactly Tegalmulyo village and Balerante village. The people shelter in a village meeting hall,” revealed Umam.
Volunteers of the MDMC are on standby, and each volunteer visually monitors the activity of Mt. Merapi.
Meanwhile, volunteer of the MDMC of Klaten has provided some services for the evacuees such as giving food, vegetables, and fruits.
