MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, MALANG – Chairman of Muhammadiyah Muhadjir Effendy stated that Islam accentuates science and literacy. The first verse of al-Qur’an is a command to read not only texts but also natural and social phenomena as signs of Allah.
“Reading is a beginning of gaining knowledge, and reading al-Qur’an enables people to know what they haven’t previously known and to grasp guidance to distinguish between the good and the bad,” declared Muhadjir in a preaching talking about al-Qur’an as an inspiration to create a literate society conducted at Dome of Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) on Friday (30/4)
He told that al-Qur’an has a lot of interpretations which depend on the reader’s readiness, ability, and background knowledge.
“Reciting al-Qur’an over and over again will foster our knowledge and faith. Thus, I wish teachers and staff of the UMM recite it every day and at least understand one verse each day. They may read translation of al-Qur’an so that it’ll be more than a reading,” expressed Muhadjir, who is also Coordinating Ministry of Human Development and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia.
