MUHAMMADIYAH.ID, JAKARTA – The United States Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia H.E. Sung Y. Kim had a visit to the Muhammadiyah Office of Jakarta on Wednesday (4/8).
Sung Y. Kim together with his entourage, namely Political Counselor Kyle Richardson, Political Officer Fausto DeGuzman, staff and an interpreter, was welcomed by General Secretary of Muhammadiyah Abdul Mu’ti and, on a video conference, President of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir and Chairman of Muhammadiyah Syafiq Mughni.
“I’ve had tremendous respect for all of the good works of Muhammadiyah for this country and more broadly. The US Embassy has also enjoyed very productive cooperation and partnership with Muhammadiyah so I’m deeply honored to be here and look forward to getting to know all of you and to continue our close collaboration going forward,” Sung Y. Kim said.
Through the online conference, President of Muhammadiyah thanked the Embassy for the visit.
“We’re happy to have you here because this will strengthen relations among the US government, Indonesia, and Muhammadiyah. Our collaboration may enable us to create peace and benefit universal humanity,” Haedar said.
Haedar wished the US has multilateral policies which enable Indonesia, ASEAN, and Asian regions to be essential part of the future of world development.
“We hope the US can be more pro-active in multiculturalism and highly uphold democracy, human rights, tolerance, and peace so that a country won’t be threatened by other countries,” he said.
The US is also expected to be more friendly with Muslims and the Islamic world.
“We hope the US can keep relations with Muhammadiyah representing moderate modern Islam in Indonesia. The US may also globally initiate positive views of Muslim and the Islamic world that Islam isn’t a threat to anyone, but a partner to create world peace and uphold values of democracy, human rights, and tolerance,” Haedar said.
