MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – President of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir stated that Pancasila is the ideology of Indonesia codified and agreed on 18 August 1945. Indonesia has gone through many eras to preserve the ideology as the era of Old Order, New Order, and reform for two decades.
“Thus, the Pancasila Day should be more than just a ritual, ceremony, jargon, and rhetoric,” declared Haedar on Monday (31/5).
He invited all Indonesian people to implement Pancasila. First, the Pancasila should be applied in the life of this nation by all state institutions so that the ideology truly becomes the basis of values, decision-making, policy-making, and policy orientation.
“Conflicts often occur because many state policies are not in accordance with the spirit, thoughts, and morality of Pancasila,” conveyed Haedar.
Second, Pancasila should become national life guidance for all components of this nation including elites.
“Pancasila should not only be memorized and become doctrine and a thought, but also be implemented in wherever and what position we are. We have to become role models to perform five principles of Pancasila, namely the Belief in One and Only God, Just and Civilized Humanity, the Unity of Indonesia, and a Democratic Life guided by wisdom in Deliberation/Representation, and Justice for all the People of Indonesia. Therefore, Pancasila is a real practice of the life of this nation,” explained Haedar.
Last, the formulation of Pancasila should become guidance of the life of this nation. We wish that we wouldn’t experience a past condition that many people neglected Pancasila, and turned the substantial principles into indoctrinative ones different from objective characters of the Pancasila values.
“Don’t politicize Pancasila for any interests. We have to learn from history. Each reduction, deviation, and politicization of Pancasila will lead to distrust in it and in state policies. All state policies regarding Pancasila require sincerity, honesty, statesman spirit, broad insight and the spirit of togetherness to embody Pancasila as the state ideology. Don’t simplify Pancasila, and don’t exceed it. Posit Pancasila proportionally as the state ideology,” asserted Haedar.
