MUHAMMADIYAH.ID, JAKARTA – Allah commands Muslims to be the best Ummah (khairu ummah) so that they have to always their character, being excellent and strong.
General Secretary of Muhammadiyah Abdul Mu’ti stated Allah tells us on Surah An-Nisa verse 9 “And let those [executors and guardians] fear [injustice] as if they [themselves] had left weak offspring behind and feared for them. So let them fear Allah and speak words of appropriate justice.”
“We are required not to leave weak offspring. It means that we have to leave strong offspring. Who’s the strong offspring. He’s Thalut (Saul) as mentioned on Al-Baqarah,” explained Mu’ti in the Muhammadiyah preaching on Saturday (12/6).
Al-Baqarah verse 247 reveals Thalut had two characteristics of a strong generation, namely ‘basthatan fil ilmi‘ and ‘basthatan fil jismi‘ (blessed with knowledge and stature). Those two aspects are essential in leadership.
“Thus, leaders should be knowledgeable and aren’t be hola holo (a Javanese term for brainless),” said Mu’ti.
“Besides, leaders should be physically strong. They don’t need to be tall or big, but they should be energetic and are able to be responsible for their duties,” he added.
Prophet Muhammad emphasized “a strong believer is better and is more lovable to Allah than a weak believer.”
“Therefore, we hope that we can mold basthatan fil jismi through this movement,” wished Mu’ti.
