MUHAMMADIYAH.ID, YOGYAKARTA – One of Kiai Ahmad Dahlan’s goals in establishing Muhammadiyah was to oppose conservative views on religion.
Kiai Dahlan supported the establishment of ‘Aisyiyah to invigorate religious views that Islam doesn’t forbid women to do activities and play roles in public considered taboo in the era.
“Muhammadiyah through its women’s wings, ‘Aisyiyah and Nasyiatul ‘Aisyiyah, has broken through the conservative thoughts of religion and culture. The women’s organizations are addressed to tell that women and men are human beings created by Allah fi akhsani taqwim (in the best of stature) and play roles in all of life aspects,” Haedar Nashir said on Saturday (7/8).
In the commemoration of the 93rd anniversary of the Nasyiatul ‘Aisyiyah, the President of Muhammadiyah mentioned surah Al-Hujurat verse 13 and An-Nahl verse 97.
Surah Al-Hujurat verse 13 clearly mentions that Allah male and female, and they’re the most noble in the sight of Allah is the most righteous among them.
“The verse clearly mentions the creation of women and men and making them into tribes so that they may get to know one another, collaborate, and live together,” Haedar said.
“Then, the value of piety becomes the basis of people’s relationship with Allah and other people. Habluminallah and habluminannas are an integral part of humanitarian theology which highly upholds women and men without discrimination,” Haedar said.
Besides, surah An-Nahl verse 97 mentions both male and female have chances to do good.
The two verses may boost Nasyiatul ‘Aisyiyah to perform inclusive humanitarian dakwah.
“When carrying out the humanitarian dakwah, Nasyiatul ‘Aisyiyah may present the transcendent values in universal humanity,” Haedar said.
“It’s necessary for Nasyiatul ‘Aisyiyah leaderships and cadres to broaden their horizons so that they remain wise, uphold the basic divine values and transformational values for universal humanity, and stay moderate,” Haedar said.
“Wa kadzalika ja’alnakum ummatan wasathan li takunu syuhada’a alan nas (And so We have made you ˹believers˺ an upright (i.e.: moderate, balanced, and outstanding) community) who isn’t trapped in extreme views, conservatism or secular liberalism. All Nasyiatul ‘Aisyiyah leaderships and cadres should always play roles humanitarian dakwah in this changing era and become moderate,” Haedar said.
